“The Minister said that this day service will play a vital role for services users and parents as they face the challenges of adapting to different life choices and growing independence.

I commended Praxis Care who work tirelessly to support adults with special needs to realise their dreams and achieve their full potential, which allows them to participate and contribute fully in the communities in which they live.

“Since becoming Minister and throughout my years working with people with disabilities,

I have always encouraged people to define themselves not by their disability but by their abilities and it’s heartening and encouraging the see Praxis Care, through their work of supporting and encouraging all who uses the services embodying that ethos on a daily basis”, the Minister concluded.

Praxis Care Day Centre service will help people with special needs to transition from school to adult services.

Service users will be supported to build their own individual programmes, focusing on personal outcomes and individually chosen goals,

They are trained to work with staff in the centre on personal skills building, they are also encouraged to be part of the local community by getting involved in community groups by attending meetings and volunteering when needed.

For example:

  • Women’s/Men’s health groups
  • Cookery skills
  • Fitness programme
  • Support to take courses in adult education
  • Attend community groups / Tidy Towns / Men’s Shed
  • Support using public transport
  • Joining a local sports team
  • Assessing employment services
  • Support with financial budgeting
