Paddy and Sean O’Neill are two brothers in their forties. They have attended St Christopher’s Services since it opened over forty years ago. They are members of a large family living in a rural part of County Longford. Music played a very important part in their lives growing up, with their father being an avid accordion player. It was when their father was playing the accordion in their kitchen one evening that Paddy took up an accordion and started playing with him. Sean showed an interest in the drums during music sessions in St Christopher’s. Neither man has ever had conventional music lessons; they learned from watching and listening to music being played. Last June as part of their PCP it was decided to investigate the possibility of the men recording their own music. A local recording studio was contacted and, delighted to become a part of the project, producer Paul Gurney offered his services at no charge. After it was recorded, the CD was duplicated and CD cases were designed in Birr Co Offaly. On Monday 2 February 2009, Paddy and Sean launched their CD in the Longford Arms Hotel in the company of family, friends and local musicians. Paddy and Sean are being honoured with an Arts and Entertainment Award from Shannonside Radio in the near future.
